RE-growth

'One step at a time'.- anon

Hiya

I Know its been ages and if you still follow me, Thank you!!!!! Its been hectic and the reason is simple.

I got a Job ya'll!!!!!!

Yep, after coming home from Sweden I was unemployed for almost 2 years (it would have been two in October. But I got a call and I started my new job in August so I am well into my second month. And thus I cant be blogging from work coz you know...that's frowned upon. Anywho.

Its great to be earning a salary and getting up early dressing up my hair and ohhhhhh before I forget..... I passed my Drivers license. Yep she can legally drive. I got the papers to prove it.

All I can say is that I had 6 goals for 2015 and I reached 2.

Job (August)
Drivers License. (September)

Cant wait to cross off the remaining four. I still got faith that I will do so before the year is over.

So will try and blog more over the weekend.

Peace, Love and reaching milestones.

Driving lessons - update

'Dude, like seriously.... Move!!!!!'- in the streets of Whk

Its Wednesday

Hiya, so I have had 2 lessons with my driving instructor and I survived. As did the car, the other drivers and my sanity. I have paid for 5 lessons to start and he thinks I will need 15 before we can consider going for my drivers licence. I think 15 is about right. I have that much confidence in my ability to steer.

That being said...... I swear other cars act like they were born drivers and came out the womb with a car and some papers (very painful thought-ouch!!!!!). I keep having to remind myself that EVERYONE started off learning and everyone has been where I am. And I should just ignore the hooting and overtaking. Even if it was somebody's 90 year old gramma who gave me the bird and overtook me in her little old yellow beetle (lies..just for dramatic effect).

I (secretly) like driving. I like knowing that at the end of this journey I can be free and on the open road and go on road trips but in real life I can go to the store to buy some bread and milk. But still I will be able To drive myself to the store. That's the point. The freedom to drive to the furthest shop across town just to get some milk and bread. coz now I got's my licence and now I can.

Just need more confidence, more hours and less people on the road then I will be a perfect driver.

Keep your fingers crossed. And Say a Prayer.

Current Situation - driving lessons

'New Beginnings start after something old ends'.- Anon

Happy Saturday y'all

So This Saturday afternoon, I will be back in front of a wheel after 10 years (wont mention that one time in India when I drove around the block for half an hour - trying not to bump a cow or monkey).

Yep, yours truly passed her learners and now I am starting my lessons.

Will be back in a few hours to update how it all went.

So excited and scared at the same time but I hear driving is like riding a bike you don't ever forget how to do it.

Nothing really changes about driving.

Lets do this!!!!!!

Happy 1 June everyone

So we are going into winter and boy can I feel it. Its not gonna be pretty!!! I don't do Namibian winters. Cold and dry? Not for me.

Anyways, below are pictures of Maya and her hair. The first is what we could do if she allows us and the rest is what the lady at her daycare did her us. We asked her if she could plait or do anything with the hair so that it can be a neat, tidy style (protective) for a few weeks, and This is what we got. Its been a week now and its going strong.

My bantu knots'd girl

Neat and tidy

Peace (with my sis B)

Stunna shades. Yes that jersey says Mischief Maker!!!!!

I like this style for a number of reasons; we used pantyhose instead of cotton so the hair breathes a bit and it's not so tight. Come wash day which will be end of this week, I can easily get to the scalp. This is also possible for oiling her scalp - we are using pure coconut oil. And this style shows off her face more. she just looks so different.

We will prolly just do this till her hair is long and she allows us at home to work it. My little Diva.

Peace, Love and June month

And we can help create a culture- imagine this- where our kids ask for healthy options instead of avoiding them´.- Michelle Obama

Happy Monday everyone.

So we have a little garden going on and it was time to harvest the spinach leaves. Check out the pix below.

I asked her to smile for me. (see those tomatoes? almost ready)

I don't even need to look, I got this!!! (watering the herbs - parsley, bay leaves,, chives, rosemary etc)

Concentration is the key

All mine? Before -  little bit sparse

Our spinach area.

After - Lovely and lush

So green and natural

Healthy and yummy

We re-purposed Maya's sand box as a spinach area.  We weren't sure if they would grow and that's why the area is small. But know we know!!!!!

We have eaten about 5 times now from this sandbox in this past 4 months alone. The amount that we get from that is enough for us 7 in the house. Maya and my mom are big spinach eaters.

Man, I lucked out with my child!!!!! Spinach, chickpeas, green beans, baked beans, corn, toast, oranges, grapes, raisins, butternut, pumpkin  are just some of the food that my daughter enjoys. So I guess you know what will be on the menu tonight huh?

Peace, Love and Spinach

Maya: shop in car with oupa and ouma
Me: what will you buy for me?
Maya: Everything!!!!!

She she gives me a kiss and turns and waves.

I swear, never a dull moment with my Princess.

Happy Monday everyone

So I had my hair in cornrows with extensions and I removed them earlier this morning. I had them in for 3 weeks. I took them out and I fluffed my hair we we managed this pic with my mini me. Enjoy.

My mini me with her shoe strap loose. She don't care!!!! Kisses

I will do a hot oil treatment, deep condition and twist and curl the ends. Might do a updo with the twists. I am thinking of doing medium to large twists instead of mini twists. I am still on protective and growth mode. So no real hair out and daring styles. Just keeping it plain and simple. Towards the end of May or early June I will braid my hair again in box braids or twists with extensions for about 6 to 8 weeks.

Peace, Love and Big hair.

Happy May Day!!!!!!

So on this public holiday, I am back online after a short break. Honestly real life is taking its toll on me and I cant find the time to Blog. That's the truth. So here and there I will blog when I can. May day is the beginning of my favorite month after April. Because its when my birthday looms over. My birthday is also on a Public Holiday - Africa Day 25May - just in case you wanna holla at your girl.

Did I ever mention about the birth-dates in my household. Well we celebrate birthdays on the 24, 25,26,27 and 28. Not all the same month but we follow each-other. 24 April - Maya, 25 May - me, 26 July- my dad, 27 July - my brother and 28 October - my sister. Only my mom and brother in law share the same birth-date and month which is 14 March. We are a random bunch.

Ok thats it.

Enjoy this day. Stay safe. Stay Blessed.

Peace, Love and May day.

Hair set back

'Oh the horror!!!!!'- Anon

Happy Thursday

So I hope you got a chance to look at the hair pictures I posted this week. Well about the hair, my sister and I decided to trim my ends and give my hair some shape. so I washed my hair and set it in about 6 thick braids and when that dried (the next day) I unraveled each braid and rolled in the section. About 3 section per braid. When all was dry, we decided to flat iron the hair on a very low setting and use grape-seed oil and her heat protectant. Then we flat ironed the hair.

All was going good, until B(my sister) came to just below my crown towards my nape. She told me my hair had broken off so much down there it was a TWA!!!!!! The rest of my hair was fine and reached armpit length. But I had about 3cm of hair that is about 4cm long. So Its either I cut the whole hair off so that its one length meaning go back to TWA and start ALL Over AGAIN or she just trims everything as best she could as well as the offending part. Which is what we did. Because honeychild, I have been in the hair game for 6 years!!!!! And I aint going back to TWA not now. It was a sad day.

Don't know how it happened or when it broke off. I keep my hair in buns but I try and change the buns every few nights. I keep my hair loose when bunning and I sleep on my shoulders and not the back of my head. Right now, I am taking a break from doing my hair. I will hopefully have it either cornrowed or in braids with extensions for a few weeks and see how that works out for me. Or I braid my hair into french braids but the point is this shouldn't have happened.

I would be lying if I said I wasnt personally hurt by my hairs actions. I am deeply offended that this hair which I care so much for, spend so much money on and treat with the utmost respect, Did this to me. I take it as a deep hurt. We ain't on speaking terms. Me and this hair are on a separation if you will. I still love it but we cool for now. It needs to show me we can work together. That is all. So will still do some hair stuff maybe I will get some new products and do reviews later on after my braid/cornrows. But really am taking a break from my hair.

Yep, setbacks are not nice. Really not nice. Let me leave now before I get all emotional all over again. I mean I was on tract to bra strap length!!!!!! I had my sights on mid-back length by December!!!!! Why Why Why!!!!! I'mma go now.

Peace, Love and Set backs.

'People will stare. Make it worth their while'. - Harry Winston

Hey my peeps

I know, I know, been gone way too long. But am back and lets get to it.

Last night, my sister B and I decided we would contour my face and play with makeup. Last year, I had a splurge moment and went makeup shopping, not a lot of stuff ---- but for me, I bought a lot.   So we got to getting and these are the results. Thanks to smiles, pulling in my tummy, flat ironed hair, a head-wrap and a very happy toddler. Makes for very beautiful pictures. Ohhh ah yeah, I played around with photoscape. I wish I could say I woke up like dis but we know I would be lying.

Below are the pix taken last night.

I woke up and did all this.....

Last Night´s supper

'For me, cooking is an expression of the land where you are and the culture of that place'.- Wolfgang Puck

Hi everyone

Couscous. Couscous is a hit and miss in our house. I love it but certain members of my fam (who will remain nameless) don't like it, so I try and cooking with it at least once a year. Last night was that once for 2015.

This was supper

Colorful and healthy

Ingredients were
- 1 cup couscous
-  small vegetable cube)
- 1 can chickpea
- 2 carrots peeled and grated
- 1 quarter green pepper diced
- 1 quarter red pepper diced
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 3 tbsp lemon juice
- quarter onion finely chopped
- garlic clove finely chopped
- cumin spice (pinch)
- paprika spice (pinch)
- salt and pepper

What I did

I boiled water and in a large coffee cup mixed that with the vegetable cube to melt. Vegetable stock or chicken stock would  also work. I then, in a large glass bowl placed my couscous and covered with the melted sock. I covered this for 5 minutes with a kitchen towel until the couscous had absorbed the liquid.

Then I mixed my oil, lemon juice, garlic, onion, cumin, paprika, slat and pepper to make a vinaigrette.

After 5 minutes when my couscous was ready I used a fork to fluff it up, added my chickpeas, red peppers, green peppers and carrots. Over everything I added my oil mixture. All in all I was good and healthy and yummy. I liked it!!!!!

Will have to check a new recipe for next year.

Peace, Love and Couscous

'We are all gifted. That is our inheritance'.- Ethel Waters

Hi All

So over the weekend, Maya and I went to our neighbors son's 5 birthday party at a local restaurant. It was a good party, good food and lots of screaming and crying kids. The restaurant hosted over 5 different children s parties. Below are a few shots I took.

The cake my friend baked for her son. She did this!!!!! Talent!!!!!

Yummy and so tasty

Fun fact: This restaurant, at a certain time the wait staff comes over to the birthday person and starts to play the drums, chant and sing. So they had left their drum in the middle of our table and My girl went over and staying drumming away!!!!! Just like that. On her own. In a crowded restaurant!!!!!

Now its time for ice cream

I love that Maya is so independent and willing to explore and not shy. She totally surprises me everyday. Never a dull moment with her. I am truthfully very Blessed.

Last night's supper

'Cooking is about creating something delicious for someone else'.- Ayumi Komura

Hi all

Last night I decided to make a borewors supper. Now borewors is a type of sausage very common in South African and Namibian  cuisine. It can be braai'd (bbq), cooked on the stove top, made into a casserole or even used in a salad.  Anything. Anytime. Breakfast, lunch, supper. So I had some in the fridge and decided I wanted to make the worlds quickest and easiest dinner. Borewors and pasta.

My ingredients were
- Pasta (spaghetti)
- Borewors (is already spiced)
- 1 onion
- half a bottle of spaghetti sauce (I wanted to finish it)
- 1 can of chopped tomoatoes to add to the sauce
- mushrooms
- oil to fry
- salt and pepper to taste

My cooking stash

Spaghetti

My wors
Onion

Mushrooms

Half bottle sauce

Salt and pepper

oil

tinned chopped tomatoes

so in oil I sweated off my onion and when it was lightly brown I added my canned tomatoes. I like to cook this down for a good half hour to 45 minutes.

Then I boiled my water for my pasta

 In went my pasta

Next I chopped my borewors into small bite sized chunks

After cleaning my mushrooms I cooked them down with a little bit of butter and salt

Next I browned my borewors

And when the tomatoes had cooked down I mixed into it the remaining pasta sauce and cooked the two together for a further few minutes.  Afterwards added everything to the borewors and combined it all together. A bit of salt and pepper to taste.

Afterwards strained the pasta and dinner was ready.

It was All good!!!! Yummy and pretty filling.
